OSF HealthCare Saint Katharine Medical Center will host a free car seat safety check event for families on Friday, September 25, from 9 to 11 a.m. at OSF Saint Katharine - Town Square Centre, 101 W. Second St., Dixon. The event will take place on the top parking deck and is open to all families in the Sauk Valley.
Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs) will be available to inspect car seats and provide hands-on guidance to help ensure children are traveling safely and securely. Technicians can assist with rear-facing car seats, forward-facing car seats, booster seats, and special-needs car seats and booster seats.
According to child passenger safety experts, correctly installing and using a car seat is one of the most effective ways to protect children in the event of a crash. However, many car seats are used incorrectly, increasing the risk of injury. During the event, technicians will check that seats are properly installed, fit the child appropriately, and meet current safety recommendations.
Families are encouraged to bring their child, vehicle and car seat to receive the most accurate assessment and personalized recommendations. No appointment is necessary.
