According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, 13% of residents in Bureau, Marshall and Putnam Counties have been told they have diabetes.
The University of Illinois Extension and OSF HealthCare are offering educational classes for anyone who is trying to prevent or manage diabetes or care for someone with diabetes. These classes are designed to help you incorporate your health care provider's recommendations into a lifestyle that promotes optimal health.
Learn and engage together to help decrease the risks associated with diabetes. Join Susan Glassman, Illinois Extension Educator, Nutrition and Wellness, and Jennifer Scully, clinical dietitian from OSF HealthCare.
Class topics include:
- Diabetes and its complications
- Planning and managing meals
- Reading food labels
- Portioning foods
- Risks for other health problems
- How to plan your doctor’s visits
- Eating out
In each of the four sessions, you will watch cooking demonstrations, taste delicious foods and take home recipes that meet your dietary needs.
