On July 27, the obstetric team at OSF Saint Katharine hosted their first Respectful Patient Care Breakfast, a heartfelt initiative aimed at strengthening the bond between care providers and the families they serve. This event provided a welcoming space for recent patients to share their experiences, both the highlights and the areas where care could be improved, during their childbirth journey.
The breakfast was part of a broader commitment to continuous improvement and compassionate care, aligning with the Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative’s (ILPQC) Equity and Safe Sleep for Infants (ESSI) initiative and the newly launched Perinatal Mental Health Initiative. These programs emphasize not only clinical excellence but also emotional and psychological support for new parents.
“We strive to provide the highest quality of care to every patient,” said shared lactation consultant, Gwen Strum. “But we know there’s always room to grow, and the best way to do that is by listening directly to those we serve.”
The OB team plans to host these breakfasts twice a year, with the next one scheduled for the fall. They encourage the community to spread the word and join in their mission to provide the best care possible for growing families.
