OSF HealthCare Saint Elizabeth Medical Center is proud to recognize Madison Gerkitz, RN, as a DAISY Award recipient. Madison, a valued member of the medical-surgical unit in Ottawa, has been a Mission Partner for eight years. She lives in Dwight, Illinois, and is known by colleagues and patients alike for her uplifting spirit and wholehearted dedication.

Her nomination came from a family member who shared how Madison’s compassionate care made a meaningful difference during their father’s hospital stay:

“My dad was a patient of Madison’s. I work in healthcare, so I see a lot of nurses and Madison is truly one of the best I’ve ever met. She listened, cared and made sure every need was addressed. Her bubbly personality instantly lowered everyone’s stress.

My dad can be a difficult patient, but Madison handled every moment with patience and ease. I never felt like a burden for asking questions. I wish every nurse could be like her. The world and healthcare would be a much better place if more people had her heart.”

Maria Chicchelly, vice president and chief nursing officer of OSF Saint Elizabeth, said, “Madison exemplifies the heart of nursing. Her compassion, attentiveness and ability to support both patients and families in meaningful ways reflect the true spirit of the DAISY Award.”

The DAISY Award honors nurses who provide exceptional, compassionate care, and Madison’s warm presence and dedication perfectly embody OSF HealthCare's Mission.
