OSF HealthCare Saint Clare Medical Center is pleased to recognize the 2023 Sunflower Award Winner, Courtney Hartmann. Courtney is a patient care tech in the OSF Saint Clare Emergency Department. Courtney was nominated for the Sunflower Award by a fellow Mission Partner who witnessed her providing compassionate patient care.
Courtney is always going above and beyond for her patients and fellow Mission Partners. Recently, she provided exceptional end-of-life care to one of her patients. “The patient had no family or close friends in the area. Courtney took it upon herself to make the patient as comfortable as possible. She put a cool cloth on her forehead, rubbed her hand, held her hand and talked to her and stayed with her as much as she could throughout the day until she passed.” Her nominator shared that this was one of the greatest displays of compassion and end-of-life dignity she had seen in the ED.
“Outstanding nursing care is recognized through the DAISY Award, but there are Mission Partners, like Courtney, who are not nurses, providing extraordinary care. It’s awesome to be able to recognize her with the Sunflower award, she is truly deserving of the honor,” said Scott Hartman, vice president of Support Services.
Recipients for the Sunflower Award are nominated by patients, the families of patients or employees throughout the past year. From the nominations, a committee at OSF Saint Clare selects one recipient annually. The Sunflower Award winner receives an award pin, certificate, sculpture, embroidered tote bag, bouquet of sunflowers and a banner displayed in their department for the year.
