OSF WOUND CARE CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY

8/01/2023 - Monmouth, Illinois

  • OSF Wound Care Tearm

With state-of-the-art equipment and specialized wound care, OSF Wound Care opened one year ago to take a leading role battling a growing healthcare crisis.

Chronic wounds affect approximately 6.7 million people in the US and the number is expected to increase by two percent annually over the next decade. The rising incidence of chronic wounds can also be correlated to obesity, vascular disease, an aging population, and radiation treatment side-effects which are often underlying causes.

We have been blessed with wonderful Mission Partners and providers,” said Audra Baker, program director. “We are so grateful to bring this needed service line back to the community and treat these patients. We truly enjoy what we do, healing wounds, teaching patients and families, impacting lives, all while having fun doing it.”

OSF Wound Care provided specialized care for more than 220 patients in 2023.  The advanced treatments available at the Center include negative pressure wound therapy, total contact casting, bio-engineered skin substitutes, biological and biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies.

During our first year we have treated over 400 wounds with a Comprehensive Healing Rate of over 92%. Patients are healing with a median of 22 days. These wounds have been related to more than one dozen conditions including diabetic ulcers of the feet and lower extremities, venous insufficiency, arterial insufficiency, pressure ulcers, infections, trauma, post-surgical wounds, and compromised skin grafts and skin flaps.
