OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center, in partnership with Saint Anthony College of Nursing, is taking an innovative approach to clinical nursing education by creating a dedicated education unit.
The dedicated education unit (DEU), located on the cardiovascular care unit of 2 North inside OSF Saint Anthony, provides a unique learning, teaching and working environment in which excellent patient care is showcased.
The inaugural class is comprised of eight senior nursing students who applied and were accepted to the program, five OSF Saint Anthony nurses who serve as DEU instructors and a Saint Anthony College of Nursing faculty member. The group will work together through the fall semester. The DEU program will continue by accepting new senior nursing students every semester.
“The DEU experience prepares nursing students through learning beside expert nurses who guide them on a consistent, real-life experience with patient care,” said Dr. Sandie Soldwisch, president of Saint Anthony College of Nursing. “This clinical education development is vital to their success as a nurse.”
