The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has made a strong recommendation for everyone who is able, six months or older, to receive the flu vaccine this year due to the prevalence of COVID-19. In support of this guidance, OSF HealthCare is taking extra steps to increase the number of vaccinations available and expand access points for patients to receive them.
"While there is no current vaccination for COVID-19, the flu shot remains the best defense against the seasonal flu,” said William Hook, MD, Director of Medical Services, OSF St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group. “Because COVID-19 will likely remain a threat throughout the influenza season and conceivably can infect individuals at the same time, we encourage everyone to get a flu vaccine. We need everyone’s help to protect our community during the upcoming flu season."
Flu vaccinations for adults and children are now available through OSF St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group – Primary Care offices. A convenient new feature offered this year allows patients to schedule a flu shot appointment easily through OSF MyChart. MyChart users can search for and select the nearest primary care clinic, as well as view specific time slots available and quickly schedule a flu shot appointment.
In addition, a drive-thru flu shot clinic will be held on Saturday, October 17 from 9:00 a.m. until noon at the John & Melissa Besse Physical Rehabilitation & Wellness Center located at 300 Willow Creek Road in Escanaba. The clinic is open to those 19 years old and up, no appointment is needed.

"We are prepared” said Dr. William Hook. “We are going to have plenty of vaccines. We are also reminding everyone to wear a mask while in public, maintain a physical distance with others, wash your hands regularly, and don’t go out if you’re sick. Then you will be doing your part to protect yourself and your community this flu season.”
