(Galesburg, IL| September 29, 2020) – Flu season is here and OSF HealthCare is ready.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has made a strong recommendation for everyone who is able, six months or older, to receive the flu vaccine this year due to the prevalence of COVID-19. In support of this guidance, OSF HealthCare is taking extra steps to increase the number of vaccinations available and expand access points for patients to receive them.
"While there is no current vaccination for COVID-19, the flu shot remains the best defense against the seasonal flu,” said Kathy Berry, Director of Physician Practice OSF HealthCare Western Region. “Because COVID-19 and influenza can infect individuals at the same time, we encourage everyone to get a flu vaccine. We need everyone’s help to protect our communities during the upcoming flu season."
Flu vaccinations for adults and children are now available through local OSF Medical Group – Primary Care offices. Specific time slots may be viewed and reserved online, a new feature offered this year through the OSF MyChart app to assist patients with scheduling an appointment. The app allows users to search for and select any office by current location, home address or zip code.
Additional options for securing a flu vaccine are also available. Walk-in flu shots are available at OSF HealthCare Galesburg.
