OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center is now the only cancer center in the region to be nationally certified for the main modalities of cancer treatment; surgery, medical oncology, and radiation oncology.
ROCKFORD – The Patricia D. Pepe Center for Cancer Care’s radiation oncology department has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
“We are proud to be the first radiation oncology department in the Northern region to obtain ACR Certification in radiation oncology and now are the only cancer center in the region to be nationally certified for the main modalities of cancer treatment; surgery, medical oncology, and radiation oncology,” said Dr. Iftekhar Ahmad, medical director, Oncology Services.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.
“Providing the best possible care is of paramount importance to all of us at the Patricia D. Pepe Center for Cancer Care and we recognize that there is a need for independent, impartial peer review and evaluation of patient care,” said Dr. Ahmad. “The American College of Radiology has extremely high standards and we certainly strive to meet their criteria so we can demonstrate that we are truly of the highest quality.”
