OSF HealthCare St. Mary Medical Center was the Galesburg Chamber of Commerce’s 2020 large business excellence award winner at the annual chamber dinner.
The large business excellence award application was review by various Chamber of Commerce’s around the country. The award was scored on four categories:
- Demonstrate innovation/growth
- Accomplishment of an important business milestone
- Ongoing commitment to a quality product or service
- Organization is a standout in the community and Chamber involvement

OSF St. Mary launched OSF Innovation, which embraces change and takes on the largest health care challenges that patients, providers and businesses face in health care today. The initiative is developing a number of ways to empower patients to care for themselves more effectively through avenues like virtual care and at-home diagnostics. OSF has online programs such as OSF OnCall where a patient can have a virtual visit with a physician 24/7. OSF also has OSF My Chart which allows a patient to communicate with their doctor, refill prescriptions, access test results and manage appointments. In 2019, OSF rolled out MyChart by the Bedside. Patients are offered tablets at the bedside to promote patient centered care.
OSF HealthCare became the first health care system in the U.S. to offer free digital mental health services to individuals in all of the communities we serve without a referral or having to be an OSF patient through OSF SilverCloud. The app, available via handheld device, computer or laptop, is a confidential, secure and interactive platform that helps people manage depression, anxiety and/or stress.
OSF HealthCare also introduced the Circle by OSF application. Circle is a free mobile app that supports women through pregnancy, motherhood and beyond.
In addition to Innovation, OSF accomplished additional important milestones this past year. For the second year in a row, OSF HealthCare has been named one of the Best Employers in the Country for 2019 by Forbes magazine, and was the highest-ranked, Illinois-based, health care system earning the distinction.
Another milestone was a safety score of an ‘A” from the Leapfrog Group. This recognition showcases OSF St. Mary’s commitment to patient safety and quality. OSF St. Mary has earned an ‘A’ since the inception of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade in 2012. Less than 2% of hospitals in the Hospital Safety Score across the US have achieved this distinction. Performing well in Quality and Safety is consistent with OSF HealthCare’s Mission of serving with the greatest care and love.
In ongoing commitment to serving OSF HealthCare communities, expansion projects at OSF St. Mary included the Family Birthing Center, Comprehensive Surgical Center, Center for Outpatient Services, Laboratory, and Brick Replacement project. A portion of the new Family Birthing Center was completed in September and phase 2 will be completed this month, allowing expanded capacity to ensure sustainable labor and delivery services to Galesburg and our surrounding communities. It provides a warm, comfortable, home-like setting for labor, delivery, and recovery, combining a relaxing environment with compassionate care. The Surgical Center, Center for Outpatient Service and the Laboratory spaces are being renovated in multiple phases and 10,000 square feet was added to the expansion for necessary space. The project is slated to be complete by April 2020. OSF St. Mary also started an extensive brick and window replacement project. The renovation will replace as many as 235,000 bricks and 140 windows over the next two years. All in total, almost 30 million dollars was invested back into caring for the Galesburg Community.
The Mark and Jeannette Kleine Pediatric Wellness Center at OSF St. Mary has also given back to the community with programs such as the OSF Wellness Camp, Healthy Kids U, Walking School Bus and support of the YMCA Solutions programs.
