A Registered Nurse (RN) and a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) were two recent recipients of the DAISY and Sunflower Awards offered by OSF HealthCare. Both caregivers were honored with brief ceremonies held this month.
Brett Gibson, BSN, RN, of Sheffield, received the DAISY Award, which recognizes exceptional nurses nationwide on behalf of the DAISY Foundation. Gibson has been employed at OSF HealthCare Saint Elizabeth Medical Center for nine years and works within the Medical/Surgical Inpatient Department.
While assisting a patient with visual impairment, who was experiencing loneliness, Gibson went above and beyond in his care. A provider stated, “Not only has Brett passed the time with her, but he also set up her phone with audiobooks for entertainment. He is such an asset to this hospital.”
The Sunflower Award, a recognition program offered to non-nursing Mission Partners with OSF HealthCare, was given to Melody Fuller, CRT, of Ottawa. Fuller has been employed with the hospital for almost 38 years and currently works within the hospital’s Respiratory Care Department as a Certified Respiratory Therapist.
Nikki Thrush, whose 6-month old son Jack was diagnosed with RSV, stated, “(Mel) was so thorough with her examinations, it was very clear that she takes her job seriously and was giving my son the best possible care… I truly appreciate the care we received from Mel during our stay!”
OSF HealthCare encourages patients, family members, and fellow Mission Partners to recognize caregivers who have provided exceptional care and service by nominating them for an award to honor their dedication.
