The OSF HealthCare Faith Community Nursing program is up and running in Streator, with community partnerships proving a key to success.
The OSF Faith Community Nursing program focuses on preventative health care, education, screenings, and referrals to community resources. A Faith Community Nurse, recognized as a specialty by the American Nurses Association, is a spiritually mature, professional registered nurse, called and committed to the healing ministry of the church.
“I am blessed to provide faith-based care to those in our community who need it most,” stated Shannon Barichello, Faith Community Nurse at OSF HealthCare Center for Health – Streator. “We are serving as an extension of Christ and I am grateful for our community partners who help to make this program possible.”
Barichello is currently providing health and wellness services throughout the Streator area, including the Streator Salvation Army, Grace Community Church food pantry, various community events, and home visits. In addition, Barichello is partnering with emergency services, local clergy, and non-profit service organizations to advocate for the health and well-being of the community.
“We have partnered with OSF HealthCare to ensure we are providing the right service, at the right time, in the right place,” stated Chief Gary Bird of the Streator Fire Department. “Our partnership allows us to identify community members who may have needs that aren’t being met, and connect them with the appropriate organization that can help address their need.”
